How to keep your New Year's resolutions

Happy New Year!

As January draws to an end, those of you who decided to make a health related New Year's resolution may be starting to see the results of your hard work. The Bodies and Beyond team wants to congratulate you on sticking to your new regime so far! We are also here to give you a few tips on how to stick to your New Year's resolutions, and hopefully continue the healthy, happy lifestyle!

Set New Goals

It's been 1 month since the new year... you've probably made fitness goals and we hope you are on your way to achieving them. If you are feeling you can't stick to your New Year's resolutions, however, we have a suggestion for you. Set new goals! It's important to always set new goals or adjust your existing ones as your fitness level and lifestyle changes. Your new goals don't have to require drastic changes. It can be as simple as drinking an extra glass of water a day. You will be amazed as to how big of a difference setting new goals can make in both your physical health and mental health. It gives your life continued purpose!

Be Realistic

It is very unlikely you can drop 50 lbs in 2 weeks. If you have significant weight to lose, you have to be honest and realistic with yourself. No matter what kind of goals you would like to achieve, make sure they are SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-sensitive).

Replace Habits Instead of Eliminating Them

Habits need to be replaced with new behaviors. If you are used to drinking a can of coke a day for years, it will be pretty hard to stop cold turkey even if you know it's not healthy. Instead of immediately eliminating coke from your diet, you can start with drinking 5 cans a week instead of 7, then slowly drop it down from there. At the same time, you should look to replace your coke habit with alternative options such as carbonated or soda water. Effectively changing your habits permanently and adopting a healthier lifestyle can be a slow process, but ultimately, you will be healthier for it!

It's okay!

Not everyone sticks with their New Years resolution and that's normal for most people. We want you to live a healthy and active lifestyle for your benefit.
