What are the benefits of nutrition alongside training?


When it comes to fitness and working out, nutrition is one of the main factors in achieving the best results. There's a saying in the fitness industry, "Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym." This is fairly true however it is very important to maintain a good exercise regime on top of a good diet.  Research suggests that results in fitness are 70% diet, 30% gym. We cannot underestimate the importance of a good diet.

What separates Bodies and Beyond Personal Training Ltd to other businesses is that we offer nutritional services through our own in-house registered dietitian, who can help you with the nutrition side of your lifestyle. Having an in-house dietitian on the team allows for close communication between your trainer and dietitian, meaning greater results will be achieved. 

We asked our dietitian Melanie Yelland a few questions that we think can benefit you! Please read below.

What are the benefits of nutrition alongside training? 

Having good nutrition is important whether you are active or not. However, if you are training or living an active lifestyle, it's important to make sure that you are eating well to fuel your activity and support your body to achieve good health overall.

What can your services provide for our clients? 

I am here to help support clients in their health goals. I will provide my recommendations, but we will always develop goals and plans together. I do not believe in restrictive eating or diets nor will ever recommend people give up things they love. I am a resource to clients for nutrition information, grocery shopping and cooking tips, how to eat healthier if you're eating out often, etc. Changing habits can be hard and take time, I am here to support people so they can make the necessary changes to realize their nutritional health goals and stick to them for the long term.

What are a few tips you can provide for those who don't know anything about dieting?

(I don't support/recommend diets/dieting) When going in to a new lifestyle change (i.e. trying to eat more healthily) you need to think of the long term. Unfortunately there is so much marketing out there to mislead people into thinking they have to follow an elaborate and overly restrictive diet plan in order to be successful; this isn't the case. Short term success doesn't generally achieve the long term results and can actually be damaging to your health and well being.

How can you see results with a good diet? 

Eating well will help to: make you feel more energized, fuel your activity/life, prevent various diseases (such as cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease), to improve your gut health, help support your immune system to keep you from getting sick... the list goes on really.
